Mini Tesla Coil

A Tesla coil is an electrical device invented by Nikola Tesla in 1891. It is designed to generate very high voltage, low current, high-frequency electricity.

In simple terms, it’s a machine that can create electric sparks (like mini lightning ⚡) and even transfer energy wirelessly.

How To Order PCB

Main Components

A typical mini Tesla coil (often called a Slayer Exciter) includes:

  • Secondary Coil (many turns of thin copper wire)
  • Primary Coil (few turns of thick wire)
  • Transistor (like 2N2222 / TIP31 / BD139)
  • Resistor
  • Power Supply (battery or adapter)

The mini Tesla coil works on electromagnetic induction + feedback oscillation:

Step-by-step:

  1. Power ON
Current flows through the primary coil.
  2. Magnetic Field Creation
The primary coil creates a changing magnetic field.
  3. Induction in Secondary Coil
This field induces voltage in the secondary coil.
  4. Transistor Switching (Oscillation)
The transistor rapidly turns ON/OFF, creating high-frequency pulses.
  5. High Voltage Output
Voltage increases in the secondary coil.
  6. Wireless Energy Transfer
The electric field around the coil can:
    • Light a bulb 💡
    • Create sparks ⚡

Why It Works Without Wires?

The coil produces a high-frequency electromagnetic field.
When a bulb is brought near it:

  • The field induces current in the bulb
  • The bulb glows without direct connection
